About Subaru

Subaru is the car branch of the the Japanese conglomerate Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI), which has been around since 1915. Car production was started in 1954, the first model being the 1500, a small saloon car with a 1,5-litre Peugeot engine. Since then some of the most notable models to have been produced are LegacyForester, rally champion Impreza and the BRZ, which by the way was developed in co-operation with Toyota. Their identical sister car was called GT86. Subaru has always been somewhat of an oddball among the Japanese car makers, sticking almost exclusively to four-wheel drive and boxer engines. In the beginning of the 2000's GM was part owner of FHI, hence the Impreza was sold rebadged as the Saab 9-2X.
