About SEAT

Seat, short for 'Sociedad Española de Automóviles de Turismo' was founded in 1950 by the Spanish state and produced licensed versions of Fiat's biggest sellers. One example is the Seat 600 which was almost identical to the Fiat 600. From the first produced car in 1953, a Seat 1400 up until 1965 Seat cars were only sold in the domestic Spanish market, but due to a contract with Fiat, export was accepted to a limited number of markets in for exapmle Latin America and North Africa during the 60's. In the 70's Seat was allowed to sell cars to European countries as well. Seat's first spanish developed model, Seat 1200 Sport was presented in 1975. In 1985 Volkswagen group aquired a majority of Seat, today Seat is the sole proprietor of Seat. It operates as a brand within Volkswagen Group, producing its own models like the Ibiza, Toledo and León, but just as with the other brands, like Audi, and Skoda the cars are built on Volkswagen platforms.
