About Ford
Ford was founded in 1903 and quickly became one of the largest car manufacturers, all because of Ford Model T, the car that put America on wheels. It was produced in more than 15 million units between 1908 and 1927. Fords founder, the eccentric industrialst Henry Ford, was both forward thinking and conservative, ignoring that Model T didn't keep up with its competition during the 20s. Ford har to close its factories for months when the succeeding Model A was developed due to slow sales of Model T. Ford was first with mass producing V8 engines, but one of the last to use hydraulic brakes. Ford was also quick to set up production plants in other countries and continents. In addition to Europe, ford had production in Japan as early as 1925 and even had a factory in the Soviet Union from 1933 to 1939.
During the 30s and 40's a process of making cars more adapted to the markets they were made for was started. Ford of Britain made models of their own, so did Ford in Germany.
Ford is still one of the largest car makers of the world, with successful models like the F-Series, a pick up-truck which has been the most sold car in the US for many years. The corporation has had and sold other car makers, such as Volvo, Jaguar and Aston Martin. In the 50s, Ford started a new marque, Edsel, named after founder Henry Ford's son, which is known as being one of the world's largest marketing failures.
